The Microsoft Extended Support for windows XP has ended. What does this mean?

Well, it means that Microsoft will no longer offer technical support or security updates for Windows XP beyond this date.

We are aware that many businesses are still using Windows XP therefore Microsoft has recently promised to update their anti-malware for Windows XP until July 2015. It’s good news for Windows XP users as it means their security software will continue to detect and fix new malware and virus threats targeting Windows XP until July 2015. This gives businesses more time to prepare.

Despite this news, if your business is still running Windows XP it’s worth thinking about a move to Windows 7 or Windows 8 sooner rather than later, and there are benefits for doing so:

  • Better protection against security threats to your computers and business software.
  • New and future software applications you might use may not be supported and compatible with Windows XP.

Would Sage still support products such as Sage UBS, Sage Payroll and Sage 50 if I am using Windows XP?

Yes, if you are already running any of the Sage product we will continue to support you for the near future, however we will not be able to assist in issues relating to Windows XP.

However, we won’t be able to support you on new versions of our software bought after April 2014. We’re going to be updating our system requirements in April and they will no longer include Windows XP, so you’ll need a new Windows Operating System.
